How to take care of your pieces

Taking good care of your piece will help you maintain its splendor, shine and duration.
Here are some helpful tips on how to care for and maintain your pieces (and it's not hard!))

Gloss Preservation

All articles of SMOLL republic have been treated with a technique that helps prevent loss of shine. Even so, it is important to take into account the following considerations to optimize its good condition over time:

  • Your pieces can lose their shine when exposed to the open air for a long time.
  • Loss of shine or tarnish is a natural process that can be recovered by washing.
  • We strongly recommend removing any jewelry before going to sleep, showering, or before engaging in any physical activity.
  • Exposure to certain chemicals or environments can compromise its integrity. This includes (but is not limited to): perspiration (sweat), perfumes/colognes, cleaning products, chlorine, salt water, silver polishes, etc.

Cleaning

Mix some soap with warm water and scrub the item with a soft toothbrush. Toothbrushes are ideal for cleaning pieces that have hard-to-reach corners. If the dirt persists, perform the same process in clean water. Important: gold-plated pieces require greater care. Rubbing hard can lead to bath leak, so it's important to do it gently to prevent bath wear. A specific silver polishing cloth is a great tool to make your pieces shine again in case they have blackened over time. However, this technique will not remove any scratches or dents that the piece may have.

How to save them

Your pieces should always be stored away from any exposure to sunlight and away from warm places, ideally in a padded jewelry box or tarnish resistant bag. They can also be stored in individual plastic (polyethylene) bags with hermetic closure. Never use rubber containers, as they will cause accelerated tarnishing of the pieces and possibly cause them to blacken. Under no circumstances store them in a bathroom or in humid places.
